GenderGP’s introduction to supporting transgender people is suitable for all healthcare professionals as well as counsellors, parents and loved ones. The course aims to provide a better understanding of what it feels like to be gender variant and what can be done in practical terms to help alleviate gender dysphoria. During the training, Marianne combines her own experience with the insights of hundreds of clients she has supported over the years.
Whether you are a counsellor, looking to specialise in the care of gender variant patients, a nurse or GP looking for ways to make your practise more inclusive, or simply an individual looking to gain a deeper understanding of what it is to be trans, this course will improve your empathy and knowledge of how best to support gender variant people in the world today.
Marianne Oakes heads up the team of specialist gender counsellors at GenderGP, an online health and wellbeing clinic supporting gender diverse individuals and their loved ones. She has been working with the trans community for the past five years. During this time she has helped people of all ages, including children and their families, by creating a non-judgemental space in which people can talk openly about their experience of gender and how this has impacted their lives.
As a trans woman herself, Marianne came to this particular branch of therapy after struggling to find a counsellor with the right experience and qualifications to help her with her own journey. Marianne has witnessed her family’s struggles in coming to terms with her gender identity, an experience which has given her a unique insight which she brings to her practise.
The cost of the day is £60, but concessions are available, if you need a reduced cost place, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
